Scope & content
Subseries consists of large albumen prints of military subjects taken between 1878 and 1888, primarily between 1878 and 1884. Many of the photographs depict the various companies and activities of the Queen's Own Rifles regiment. Most of the photographs were taken at either Fort York (the Old Fort) or Stanley Barracks (the New Fort), but some were taken in London, Ontario and Wimbledon, England. One shows a decorated triumphal arch that welcomed Lieutenant Colonel William Otter and his soldiers home from defeating Louis Riel's North-West Rebellion in 1885. Several photographs were taken by prominent Toronto photographers, including J. Bruce and Notman & Fraser.
