- Scope & content
- File consists of one albumen photograph of K Company, Queen's Own Rifles, created in 1880 or 1881 by photographer J. Bruce and painter F. M. Bell-Smith. K Company was also known as the University Company, because it was composed of students from the University of Toronto (later University College) and commanded by a series of university professors. The student soldiers, who are individually identified on the photograph, are standing in a painted landscape against the main University of Toronto building (later known as University College). A smaller albumen photograph of the officers and ex-officers is inset at the top. According to notes written by Becker on the back of the frame, this company was earlier known as the Second University Company.
