The soldiers, who are each identified on the photograph, are set in a painted scene of Queen's Park, next to a Fenian Monument, with the University of Toronto (now University College) in the distance. A small albumen photograph of the officers, including Lieut Pellatt (later Sir Henry Pellatt), is inset at the top of the regimental group portrait.
