- Scope & content
- Series consists of photographs that document the vernacular architecture of Toronto Island homes. Hickox, a lifelong Island resident, is particularly interested in recording older homes that have survived to the present day as well as the gradual gentrification of the community through renovations and demolitions, which often accompany a change in ownership.Hickox's photographs also capture how the environment acts on homes across the seasons, from concealing them behind screens of dense summer foliage to covering them beneath a blanket of snow. A small number of images document efforts to hold back the flood waters that threatened many Island homes in the spring and summer of 2017.In addition to digital photographs, series includes two copies of a limited edition photo book of Toronto Island homes Hickox published in December 2018, as well as four four-panel prints of Island homes arranged by season.
