Scope & content
Series consists of files created by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra relating to their non-Toronto performances in Canada and internationally. Records contain information about extended tours, such as multi-week tours in Asia or Europe, and "run-outs," concerts performed in nearby cities where only a day trip or overnight stay was required, such as in Barrie, Montreal, or New York City. Major tours include: the Commonwealth Arts Festival, 1965; Japan, 1969; China and Japan, 1978; Western Tour, 1979; the Canadian Odyssey Tour, 1987; Pacific Rim Tour, 1990; and European tours in 1974, 1983, 1986, 1991, 2000. This series provides documentation on the organizational challenges of moving a group of musicians and their instruments, and contains records such as contracts, itineraries, budgets, correspondence with hotels and transportation companies. Series also includes material relating to the performances, such as programs, invitations, and reviews, and records created after the tours, such as thank-you letters and reports.
