- Scope & content
- Series consists of records collected and in some cases created by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to document other musicians and musical groups. A portion of the series consists of subject files containing general information about other orchestras. However, much of the series documents guest musicians, composers, conductors, singers, choirs, and orchestras that performed as guests of the TSO, or who auditioned or were being considered for guest spots. These guests included both Canadian and non-Canadian artists, such as Maureen Forrester, Glenn Gould, Yo-Yo Ma, Yehudi Menuhin, Victor Borge, Placido Domingo, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and Harry Belafonte. Press books, biographies, programs, contracts, newspaper and magazine articles, photographs (mostly publicity portraits, but sometimes performance photographs), and other records document the contributions these artists made to TSO performances.Series would also be of interest to anyone studying the evolution of publicity techniques in the artistic world, as it contains press books, photographs, and other publicity materials over a range of fifty years.
