Scope & content
Subseries consists of photographs documenting the construction of the St. Clair bridge (also known as the Wells Hill bridge). This structure, located on a stretch of St. Clair Ave. W. between Wells Hill Ave. and Spadina Rd., was built as part of the construction of the St. Clair line of the Toronto Civic Railways. It replaced a fill project that had been swept away by landslide in 1912. During construction of the bridge, a temporary wooden trestle bridge was erected to allow for the opening of the car line.Arranged chronologically, photographs provide general and detail views of the progress of construction, including images of the temporary trestle bridge and the new bridge.
