Scope & content
Letter from Mount Sinai Sanatorium for Tuberculosis about Elias Rosengarten on official letterhead. It states that Elias Rosengarten was treated for tuberculosis, details his treatment and suggests that the poor condition of his pulmonary system could easily be due to the treatment he suffered during his imprisonment in a concentration camp during the war. Narrative: Elias Rosengarten was treated at the Mount Sinai Sanatorium from 1952-08-29 to 1954-09-12, from 1955-07-03 to 1955-08-01, and from 1956-07-16 onwards.

Sputum was positive for tbc. After the usual antibiotics, such as Streptomycin and PAS, failed to close the cavity in the left lung, left pneumothorax was started. The patient's sputum turned negative and he was discharged September 12th, 1954, with the recommendation that he should continue left pneumothorax. He was re-admitted for review on July 3rd, 1955, and was discharged on August 1st, 1955, with the recommendation that he should not work yet and he should continue his pneumothorax. He was re-admitted again on July 16th, 1956, because of an increasing amount of fluid in the left chest. As to the history of his disease, it is very possible that Mr. Rosengarten's pulmonary condition is due to the long standing stay in a concentration camp and the accompanying physical strain and unsatisfactory diet.cjhn.caRead automatically; may contain mistakes.
