- Scope & content
- Letter: informing him that DIA has had many inquiries about any special rights of Indians to hunt and fish. Pointing out that section 8 (1907 Game and Fisheries Act) appears to grant certain privileges in virtue of treaties, nevertheless Indians exercising this right in good faith are being charged. Gives an example of a Nipissing Band member charged and heavily fined in the Robinson-Huron treaty area. Suggests their enforcement practice is more restrictive than the statute. Asks for clarification regarding any distinctive privileges held by Indians.
