- Scope & content
- Memorandum: 7-page mem outlining the history of the claim to unceded lands by the Mississaugas of Alnwick. Rice Lake, Mud Lake, Scugog and the Chippewas of Ram, Georgina and Beausoleil. Outlines the Robinson Huron Treaty lands and the question of whether lands now claimed were included in the said Treaty. Reports on what understanding the Chiefs had regarding these lands. Includes a copy of memo to the Deputy Superintendent General of Indian Affairs written by R. Rimmer, Law Clerk. which states that this claim was not a proper one and Rimmer advises against expending band funds for the purpose of retaining a counsel to press their claim. Concludes by stating that the claims should not be preferred against the Province of Ontario and if the question would be reconsidered, should only be to ask Parliament to vote some small sum to quiet the said claims.
