- Scope & content
- Letter: reporting on the increase of Indian returns for annual presents. States that many of the Algonquin and Nipissing Tribes did not in past collect their presents but stayed on their distant hunting grounds to trap as that was more profitable than the presents. Advises that during the years 1841 and 1842, this was not the case. The lumbermen have overrun the greater part of their hunting grounds and they are now obliged to resort to the annual presents.
