Scope & content
Series consists of an assortment of Welsman family memorabilia that predominantly relates to the life and career of Frank S. Welsman. Material includes three scrapbooks comprised of an array of press clippings, correspondence, and other ephemera about Welsman's musical career. There are loose newspaper clippings of concert reviews and announcements, historical articles about Welsman and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, clipped poems and cartoons, and obituaries for Frank S. Welsman, as well as his son, George Welsman. Series also contains photographs of Welsman with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, prints of artists Johanna Gadski Tauscher and Tilly Koenen, and family photos of Frank S. Welsman, his wife Helen, and daughter Mary. There is some material about the Great War: included are family letters from the battlefront, clippings, and seven published magazines of wartime cartoons by Capt. Bruce Bairnsfather. Series also includes five numbered copies of the book "The Welsman Memoranda," a volume that reprints reviews of Toronto Symphony concerts from 1906-1917 mixed in with anecdotes.
