- Scope & content
- Fonds consists of photographs that document the Toronto Fire Department (TFD) and the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE).The TFD images predominantly document large fires in the Toronto area, but also include pictures of equipment and staff. The fires documented are two and three alarm fires, i.e. those involving staff and equipment from more than one station. These images typically show fire fighters extinguishing the blaze and the post-fire damage to the structure. The equipment and personnel shots are often taken in front of fire stations, or in action at the scene of a blaze. The second series consists of images taken by Karl Lee of the CNE and other Toronto groups and events. The CNE images depict athletic competitions and other events held there, such as car racing, vaudeville acts, and Scottish bands. Also included are photographs of groups such as the Canadian Ladies Athletic Club, and events like the Prince of Wales' visit in 1927.
