Le plan de droite présente la ville de Montréal jusqu'à ses limites (le quartier Sainte-Anne à l'ouest, le quartier Sainte-Marie à l'est et le Parc Mont-Royal au nord). Les quartiers sont délimités par des couleurs. Le plan de gauche présente l'île de Montréal et les îles environnantes, avec la division en couleur des différents secteurs existants (de Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue à l'ouest jusqu'à Pointe-aux-Trembles à l'est). Deux encadrés apparaissent par ailleurs sur le document. L'encadré intitulé "County & railway map of the vicinity of Montreal : from Johnston's manuscript "Map of the Dominion of Canada"" présente les environs de l'île de Montréal et les chemins de fer existants tandis que celui intitulé "The town and fortification of Montreal, Ville Marie : from a plan published by Jeffreys in 1758" présente l'ancienne ville fortifiée de Montréal.
