- Scope & content
- Series consists of photographs documenting the early work of the Housing Authority of Toronto. The images focus on the initial slum clearance activities and the new construction of houses and apartments for the Regent Park housing development. The Regent Park project represented Toronto's entry into large scale social housing and neighbourhood improvement and these images document the changing streetscape and the dramatically altered built environment. In addition, there are photographs of several individuals and various activities. Particularly well documented is the Bluett family. There are several pictures of them at their old condemned home on Sumach Street and their move to a new Housing Authority home on Dundas Street. There are also several images of children participating in activities at the purpose-built recreational centre.Series also consists of images of other Housing Authority of Toronto projects, such as the Donald Summerville Apartments, William C. Dies Apartments, and Eastview Park. There are also pictures of individual homes and apartment buildings that were managed by the Housing Authority.
