The Hon. Paul Martin, Secretary of State for External Affairs, will be the Guest Speaker. Also taking part in the program will be the Chief Rabbi of the French-speaking Community of Montreal, Rabbi Dr. David Feuerwerker, (Officier de la Legion d'Honneur, Croix de Guerre 39-45) Leader of the French Resistance. This will be followed by a march to the Cenotaph where wreaths will be laid and a memorial plaque honouring the Canadian Armed Forces will be presented to General Jean V. Allard, CBE, DSO, ED, CD, Chief of the Defence Staff, who played an active and prominent part in the Liberation Campaign. The march to the Cenotaph will be lead by five men and women, dressed in concentration camp garb, five being symbolic of the method of assembly used by the Nazis for counting the prisoners in the concentration camps.Participating in the event will be representatives of the Canadian Armed Forces, Royal Canadian Legion, Federal, Provincial and Municipal Governments, and various community organizations. On the same day and at the same time, branches of the Association across Canada will hold similar commemorations. The Association of Survivors of Nazi Oppression is a strictly non-political Organization, comprised of people who went through the horrors of Nazi persecution and of native-born Canadians who support its aims. The Association's objectives are to preserve the memory of the millions of victims of the Nazi tyranny and to help build and preserve a society free from the horrors of race hatred and its terrible consequences.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
