In April 1945, he was forced on a death march to Gunskirchen concentration camp where he was liberated by the US army. He immigrated to Montreal in 1949 and became the president of the Association of Survivors of Nazi Oppression (circa 1963-1971) and took part in the creation of the MHMC in 1979.

- ASSOCIATION OF FORMER CONCENTRATION CAMP INMATESSURVIVORS OF NAZI OPPRESSIONMONTREAL - CANADAText of a Memorandum presented to Board of Broadcast Governors by our Delegation.November 17th, 1964.Dr. Andrew Stewart,Chairman,Board of Broadcast Governors.Dear Sir:With reference to the program "This Hour has Seven Days" of October 25, we submit the following:That it constituted an act of irresponsibility to permit the airwaves to be used for the propagation of an anti-social and evil doctrine. That the Rockwell interview was conducted in a way constituting a flagrant violation of all acceptable standards of good taste and human decency. The stage was set in a way to make the subject look impressive and important by the use of such aids as the large Swastika flag, the guards in Nazi uniforms and the raised platform. Furthermore, the interviewers lowered themselves to the subject's level of thinking through the constant use of improper leading questions. Libellous lies and statistics were practically allowed to be established as facts. Extremely injurious and libellous accusations and references were allowed to be uttered against segments of our citizenry, and this with full foreknowledge on the part of the interviewers.Enlightened opinion, newspaper editorials, Members of Parliament who spoke on the subject in the House of Commons on October 27, agreed that the producers of the program had stooped down to cheap, vulgar, yellow journalism. We question whether it is proper for the C.B.C., which enjoys such prestige and which is being looked upon for guidance, to try and build the popularity of a program at the expense of the feelings of so many of our citizens. We cannot accept that the legitimate sensitivities of segments of our population should be disregarded for the sake of allowing a man, barred by law from entering this country, to use our National Broadcasting facilities for the dissemination of an internationally condemned, criminal doctrine. We fear that a program such as the Rockwell interview, will, if established as permissible, corrupt our general standards of broadcasting and reporting, and allow other stations, which have always refrained from presenting such obnoxious filth, to have recourse to similar tactics in order to boost viewership. In view of the above, we most strongly protest such undivic abuse of the airwaves and demand immediate redress to forestall emulation and further deterioration of the standards of public opinion making media. We suggest that this matter clearly falls under Article 5 (p.5) of the Broadcasting Act* and should be dealt with accordingly. We hope that the regulations will be applied and the high standards of Canadian broadcasting thereby reaffirmed. We humbly request to be kept informed of the action taken.Yours truly,(signed) Lou Zablow, President.(signed) Paul Goldstein, Executive Director.*SOR/59-456 Broadcasting Act, Radio (TV) Broadcasting Regulations.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
