- Scope & content
- Plane with a mouth opening in the centre to insert the blade and allow the wood shavings to pass through. At the front of the plane is a handle, extending upwards and curving slightly outwards and to the right. There is a make-shift face painted on the front of the handle. There is a ledge extending from the front, for a better grip when being used. The blade has a thin lip at the top edge and a sharpened bottom edge. The bottom edge tapers and has a slight curve. A wooden wedge is included to be inserted between the plane and blade, keeping the blade tight and in place: it tapers outwards at the top and inwards at the bottom; the bottom has been shaped into 2 prongs. Narrative: Item belonged to Yonah Stollen, the donor's father. It was used in Europe between 1912 and 1926. Yonah Stollen came to Canada around 1926 and settled in Knowlton, Quebec. he continued to use the flatwood plane in his trade.
