- FridaySeptember 8th 1939Surely this war is one of the most screwy that has ever been fought.Again English aircraft have flown over parts of Germany dropping not bombs out more pamphlets, three million more pamphlets, so we are told.I still have the feeling that every attempt is still being made to avoid smashing the world as we know it into bits. There is a feeling if only Hitler could be disposed, assassinated or captured the Allies would find a good excuse to declare an armistice and from that point make a quick jump to peace. But judging by the temper of the people here it must be a real peace. It does seem queer to me that the pattern of pre war times in 1915 and part of 1914 was the same as during the past two years. Now as then there was a depression unemployment and restlessness. It would almost appear as if certain forces were at work in both periods which foreshadowed war. Were these forces in the power of man to control. If so then there may be truth in the assertion that International financiers have interests to serve which are not the interests of humanity. Why was Germany furnished with raw materials for munition manufacture by Britain up to two weeks before war was declared on Germany. This is not a matter of surmise, it came out in the press and was discussed in the the British Parliament.Canada is not yet at war with Germany but it will be if parliament supports the government of Hon MacKenzie King by vote tomorrow. If not there will be a new government. I feel sure that the vote will be an overwhelming one for the King policy.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
