The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 4 hours)

Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

Scope & content
Memorandum: advising that the Algonquins of Lake of Two Mountains have, for a number of years, been receiving $16 per annum for leasing of islands in the Ottawa River to which they have never had title. Advises that on July 22, 1834, DIA gave a 99-year lease to George Hamilton. States that Hamilton requested a patent for the island on March 20, 1861, agreeing to pay the Indians a rental as they had been doing before that time, and the Crown Lands Dept ruled that the Indians had no claim to the island. Advises that the DSGIA advised Hamilton that he had no obligation to pay rental to the Indians as the Dept never had any claim to the islands. Gives a history of the islands to this date and requests advice as to whether he should put an end to the collection of these rents.
