The website of Queen's University Archives is down (for about 4 hours)
Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

- Letter: acknowledging letter of Oct. 18 regarding Golden Lake Indians taking game in season without a license. With reference to statement that Ont Gov't paid large sum for Indian privileges, i.e. Williams Treaties of 1923, that Golden Lake Indians did not benefit from these treaties and that "[A]s a matter of fact they were not concerned with them in any way, and the point. therefore, seems to be entirely outside the question." Further indicating that same matter explained by Indian Affairs Branch to him on more than one occasion. Repeating [MacInnes letter of same date] that plea on their behalf is based upon humanitarian consideration, and not on treaty rights, and that it "finds ethical support in the fact that their reserve at Golden Lake was purchased for them from the Ontario Government. especially because it was located in a good hunting area. As you are I think aware, their land is not suited to agriculture, and with the severe hunting restrictions now in force, it is difficult for them to make a livelihood." Further stating that it is not suggested that they be permitted unrestricted hunting that would interfere with conservation, but that some concessions be made "in view of their peculiar situation."
