- Scope & content
- Letter: interim report on the Oka question. Advises that many of the Oka Indians who had moved to Gibson Township have returned. States that at present there are 454 at Oka, 185 Roman Catholics who are mostly Algonquin, and 265 Iroquois who are mostly Protestant States that the friction there comes from the Indians asserting their alleged right to the land there wishing to cut wood for their commercial purposes rather than for their own use. Suggests that the matter could be settled by giving the Indians reserve status for their holdings in Oka providing they forego their claim to the whole tract. Refers to reserves at Maniwaki and Doncaster, stating that the squatters on these reserves will likely be granted their possessions.
