"I had a visit during the past sununer from Chief Big Canoe, after whom Canoe Lake is named, he having trapped there some forty years ago. I gave him permission to visit all his old trapping grounds, and on his return he told me with delight that he found beaver everywhere." [Note: Chief Big Canoe was a Chippewa Chief from Georgina Island. Canoe Lake is on the west side of the height of land, i.e. outside of the Ottawa Valley Watershed.] - p. 58. A ranger named Sawyer "trapped for years over this section [twps. Pentland, Osler and Biggar] before it became a Park" - p. 58.
