Its images and links won't load until it's back. Panarchive shows each image straight from the archive's own website, so when that site is down the picture can't be shown here. Nothing is lost: everything returns once the archive is back up, and we check every few minutes.

- Scope & content
- Letter: states that the bearer of this letter, Amable (an Ottawa Chief) is a shrewd man who has been asked by some of the Chiefs of his Nation to represent them in Council to the Seven Nations of Canada who had asked to have a meeting about Indian affairs in general. Advises that the Interpreter states that this is not the case, as there is much jealousy between Amable and the other Chiefs. Advises that Amable is going to winter in Lower Canada to learn everything that concerns the Indians. Recommends treating Amable with some distinction as he has a great deal of influence with the Ottawas.Footnote states that Amable is probably Amable Chevalier, a son of the French trader, Louis Chevalier, afterwards distinguished in the War of 1812.
