- Scope & content
- Letter: concerning St Regis Indians' claim to land on north shore of St. Lawrence. Discusses fact that Indians don't have grant for this land; land is intended to settle Loyalists. Indians must be made to realize tha.t they have no right to the land, and compensation will be paid as a favour to them. Also, notes that "Piere Minass", an Indian from Lake of Two Mmmtains, claims land on St. Lawrence towards Cataraqui under French grant, which he is willing to sell for yearly sum. Marginalia by Sir John Johnson notes that tract runs from Toniata River to Gananoque; Minass is dead, but compensation is paid to his son and family.
