Item is a photograph of people attending the Shaw Festival fundraiser in the Canadian Room in Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel. This is an annual black tie charity night of boxing. This was the photographer's first night at the Shaw Festival fundraiser. It is an annual charity event that raises money for the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake (George Bernard Shaw was a boxing fan). The photographer noted that he was stunned by the lushness of it all; all the tuxes and extravagance. At this time it was men only and many of them were smoking cigars. The one woman in the photo was a ring card girl and a waitress. The photographer was escorted to the ring to photograph for only one round of one fight, his friend was fighting, but security forgot about him and he remained ringside all night. He was seated between Marvin "The Weasel" Elkind, whom he became friends with, and Stephen Brunt, a sports writer who many years later wrote an essay for the photographers book "World's Greatest". The editor, and friend, of the magazine (titled Below the Belt) the photographer was shooting for, Dameon Okposio, rented the photographer's tuxedo for the evening.
