Scope & content
Insert from funeral service prayer booklet, ca. late 1930s or early 1940s. The mourner could ostensibly take the booklet with them and mark down information about the deceased for future yahrzeits (anniversaries of the death) when the Kaddish prayer would be said. The insert also provided space for mourners to mark down in which sections and plots of the cemetery the deceased were buried. Mourners could also mark down the burial society of the deceased. These societies were often connected to political groups or landsmanshaften (benefit associations of immigrants from specific cities and towns of Eastern Europe). Courtesy of the Paperman family.
