J. Cauchon narre à La Fontaine le récit d'un duel où il avait été convoqué par un Monsieur Rhéaume ardent défenseur de la cause annexionniste. Ce dernier ne s'étant pas présenté au duel, J. Cauchon fait savoir à La Fontaine que les annexionnistes ont, de fait, perdu toute crédibilité dans la ville de Québec et il s'en réjouit. Titre basé sur le contenu de la pièce.
