What the image shows
This is a black-and-white engraved illustration of a scene in a large wooden longhouse-style interior, with a robed, bearded clergyman in a long dark cloak standing on the left and gesturing with one arm toward a group of seated and standing Native men. The central figure wears a tall feathered headdress and fringed hide clothing and holds a staff, while others in the crowd wear feathered headdresses and are gathered closely around him. Below the picture, a printed caption reads Father Jogues Haranguing the Mohawks, with a short paragraph of printed text and a credit line for Parkman's France and England in North America, so the image is a printed book plate or page rather than a photograph.Described automatically by a vision model; may contain mistakes.
