Scope & content
Fonds consists of about 340 black and white photographic negatives, created by professional railway man and amateur photographer, Charles Rufus Harte. While most of Harte's photographic activity focused on his American experience, these photographs were created in Toronto, between 1921 and 1923 when the newly-formed Toronto Transportation Commission (TTC) was assessing the property it had just taken over from several private and public street railway companies. Harte's photographs document such new TTC properties as the Roncesvalles, Lansdowne, Dundas, St. Lawrence, Yorkville, St. Clair, Russell and Scarborough car barns and shop facilities. Rolling stock, signage, and overhead hydro wires and towers are also depicted.
