Scope & content
Fonds consists of photographs taken either by Eden Smith or one of his sons. Some were taken to document the exteriors and interiors of houses, churches, etc., as well as natural areas such as forests and lake shores. Most of these buildings and places are not identified. Smith may have designed them, or used them as inspiration in his work. Other photographs show what may be family holidays, including a rural cottage; camping, picnics and other activities, some near Balsam Lake and Lake Simcoe; and boat travel. Many were taken at the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, and the buildings there are well documented, as are streetscapes and other locations in Boston. Fonds also includes three books, owned by Eden Smith or family members; two newspaper articles about his architecture published in the 1980s; and a small wooden frame used to make contact prints.
