- Scope & content
- Fonds consists of a portfolio of 100 black and white and colour digital images of Toronto's commercial, industrial, and institutional architecture (both historic and contemporary), urban landscapes, and transportation infrastructure photographed by Pahwa between 2012 and 2017. Sites are primarily located in the former City of Toronto, with some examples in North York and Etobicoke. Largely free of people, the images are taken from a variety of perspectives (e.g., detail views, interior views, elevated views, skyward views) with a strong emphasis on lines and geometry. Pahwa's photography presents the city as a dynamic entity that is constantly evolving. His documentation of adaptive reuse projects, restored heritage buildings, and sites undergoing demolition or redevelopment captures unique moments in the life of a site or structure and encourages viewers to observe and reflect on the change that has occurred, is occurring, or will occur in the future. Pahwa's portfolio of work also encourages viewers to look at the city in new ways. He does this by presenting familiar structures and spaces in ways that capture hidden or otherwise unnoticed details – the lines, patterns, shadows, and textures that make up Toronto's urban fabric. Items 101 to 162 includes a set of photographs donated in 2024.
