Scope & content
Fonds consists of photographs taken by Anne de Haas in a personal project to document the Toronto Police Mounted Unit and the Police Dog Service. The images capture both the officers and the animals in a variety of different settings: engaging in crowd management; at ceremonial functions such as parades, funerals and other community events; and formally posed in front of Toronto landmarks, such as the Ontario Legislature, Fort York, or Casa Loma. There are also photographs showing the officers training, grooming and working their horses. Some of the images were used to create trading cards which were subsequently handed out by the officers to interested children.Throughout her photographic documentation project, Anne was supported by the enthusiasm and financial support of her friend Dorothy Keith.
