- Scope & content
- Series consists of 331 digital scans produced from two scrapbook albums and sets of published and unpublished papers that were created, maintained, and kept by Sam Cass, former Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto Roads and Traffic Commissioner. Scrapbook albums contain a total of 189 photographs, as well as assorted programs, certificates, letters, pamphlets and other ephemera. These records chronicle his long career with the Metropolitan Toronto government from 1950 to 1989. Photographs also document the early years of the Metropolitan Toronto Traffic Computer Control Centre at Old City Hall and the implementation of an automated traffic control system in the city. Series also includes 13 born-digital photographs from 2011 and 2012 of Sam Cass at his home, at a staff reunion, and his visit to the City of Toronto's Traffic Management Centre. The published and unpublished writings of Sam Cass are comprised of articles that he prepared for professional journals and magazines, reports, chapters for textbooks and handbooks, as well as a variety of presentation papers for lectures and speeches. In addition, there are 3 digitized educational films that were produced by the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto, relating to pedestrian crossovers: Use Care at Marked Crossings (1958?), It Takes Two to Crosswalk (1960), and I'm Warning You (198-?).
