- Scope & content
- File consists of three photographs relating to S.G. Newland and his maternal ancestors, the Thomas Botham family. There is a photograph taken ca. 1880 of a house built by a Colonel Cameron, who received a farm lot (possibly lot 12, Con. 1E, Township of York) as a military grant following the War of 1812. The house was purchased by Thomas Botham in 1874, and was still standing as of 1958. There is an oblique aerial view of Hogg's Hollow, which was taken by the Simpson Bros. whose photography business existed in Toronto 1886-1925. The view shows the Jolly Miller Tavern building on Yonge Street and the lands to the south-east. The third photograph is a portrait of Malvern Collegiate students taken on the steps of the school in 1908. Each of these pictures has anecdotal information on the back, by S.G. Newland.
