Scope & content
File consists of photographs created during the Archiving Memories of Malvern workshop series, a six-week program exploring photography as a tool for documenting the Malvern area. The evening workshops included eight youth participants, aged 15 to 25, who photographed the Malvern neighbourhood in advance of planned redevelopment. Through their work, participants reflected on place, memory, and community identity. The series was led by facilitators Sagal Duale, Jasmine Vanstone, and Mohamed Shelila. Participants included Amari Gittens, Anne Layacan, Branden Fung, Dante Naipaul, Frederic Manguerra, Jazmine Chang, Yousra Amari, and Yusuf Deen. The program provided all necessary photography equipment and was supported by the Toronto Arts Council, Oddside Arts, Scarborough Arts, and TAIBU Community Health Centre. The workshop concluded with a presentation session, and participants shared curated vintage albums of their photographs alongside personal stories connected to the Malvern area.
