Scope & content
Series consists of paintings of proposed subway stations for the Bloor-Danforth and University subway lines. They were commissioned by W.H. Paterson, who was the chief engineer in the TTC's Engineering Department. The paintings were created prior to the construction of the stations and are therefore not accurate depictions of how the as-built stations appeared. The illustrations show street-level views or cross-sectional views of the stations. All of the illustrations were painted by artist Sigmund Serafin, a graduate of the Ontario College of Art, with one exception. The artist who painted the view of proposed Broadview Station was Dorothy E. Bird (of whom little is known). Her painting was discovered glued to the bottom of one of the other paintings during archival processing.
