Scope & content
File consists of photographs of the demolition of a building located at the northwest corner of Front St East and Frederick St. Originally this building was the shops building used by the Toronto Street Railway Company, which it opened in 1882 as a carhouse and shops for the horse drawn cars. The property was acquired by the Toronto Railway Company in 1891 and it continued to be used to build and repair streetcars. The property was acquired by the Toronto Transportation Commission in 1921, however by that time the facility had become obsolete and the TTC vacated the building when Hillcrest opened in 1924.
