Scope & content
Collection consists of reports primarily created by or for the City of Toronto and its various departments to document their projects, plans, programs, budgets, services, and accomplishments. These were collected and arranged by the pre-amalgamation City of Toronto Archives. These reports came from a variety of sources: they were pulled from special collections (particularly politician's papers) and government records, or were transferred directly by city departments. They have been collected in a single large agglomeration because of their format and to facilitate access. They are housed in boxes, some of which are kept in the stacks because of their age and condition. The order of arrangement is random, although the first few boxes are roughly chronological. All reports have been linked with an appropriate government record group (RG) based on the creating City department, committee, or agency. In fact some RGs consist entirely of reports. The RG number is written on each report along with the original box number in which the report is housed (and in some cases a file number). Although the RG system has now been converted and all records of the former City of Toronto (1834-1997) are part of Fonds 200, this RG association facilitates searching since subject indexing was limited when these reports were acquired.
