Scope & content

What the image shows
A halftone reproduction of a formal full-length portrait of an 18th-century man standing on a rocky outcrop against a cloudy sky, printed on a cream page. He wears a long dark coat over a light waistcoat, breeches and stockings, with a tricorn hat held in one hand and a cane or staff in the other, and his powdered hair is visible. The image is a printed book plate with a white margin, and a small credit line in the lower right corner reads Archives de la Ville de Montréal.Described automatically by a vision model; may contain mistakes.
