- A NATIONAL FILM BOARD OF CANADA RELEASECHILDREN OF JERUSALEMNEVEENBY OSCAR-WINNER BEVERLY SHAFFERDirector: Beverly ShafferOrder number: 9192 121 (Neveen)VHS 9192 121Eleven-year-old Neveen studies hard and dreams of being a doctor. She knows it will take a lot of perseverance and dedication to attain this goal. Neveen, her six brothers and sisters and her parents crowd into a small house in the Shu'fat Refugee Camp. When she travels with her father to visit an uncle, they pass Jewish settlements along the road that have their own telephone lines, newly paved roads and modern schools. Neveen and her father can only dream of such luxury. At school and at home, Neveen looks forward to the day when peace will bring her and her family the promise of a better future.Children of Jerusalem is a series of half-hour documentaries that focus on the lives of Palestinian and Israeli children. On different sides of the Middle East conflict, these children live in the shadows of both peace and protest in the much-contested, historical and holy city of Jerusalem. Living within a few kilometres of each other, they can barely imagine how the others live and can only hope that they will one day learn. Narrating the films themselves, the children provide an engaging and detailed portrait of their daily lives, hopes and fears.AN EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND STUDY GUIDE CAN BE FOUND BY PULLING OUT AND UNFOLDING THIS VIDEO JACKETRead automatically; may contain mistakes.
