Scope & content
3 pages, single-sided. Folded once horizontally and once vertically. Document contains a letter of complaint (most likely a draft) from Gusztáv Weinberger to the Land Distribution Committee, in which he complains that his parents' land plot has still not been returned to him. His parents did agricultural activities as their main profession until they were deported. The other two papers are letters between the local council and the Land Distribution Committee in which the local council confirms that their principal profession was indeed agriculture. Narrative: Donor is Elaine Kalman Naves, daughter of Gusztáv and Anikó Weinberger. Gusztáv returned from the front to learn that 34 members of his extended family, including his wife and small daughter Évike, had been deported to Auschwitz. Only one cousin returned. He remarried Anikó Schwartz and they had two daughters, Elaine and Judith. Despite his efforts, Gusztáv did not receive any compensation for the loss of his family's property during the war. This collection of correspondence was used as part of the research for the following book: Kalman Naves, Elaine. Journey to Vaja: Reconstructing the World of a Hungarian-Jewish Family.
