1 page, double-sided. Folded once horizontally. Accompanying green envelope with name and address of recipient, partial information of sender. Addressed to Gusztáv Weinberger in Budapest, Hungary. From Lajos (Lali) Klein in Sarkanty ? Rectangular postage stamp affixed at bottom right corner of envelope recto. On recto of letter, Lali writes that he is sending Gusztáv the tax certificate he asked for, and says that part of the house they sold is still in their name in the land registry. He also wishes Gusztáv, his wife and his daughter Iluska a happy new year. On verso, Lali's wife Bobi ? writes that she is sad to hear of their financial difficulties and hopes that they will have an easier time soon. Narrative: Donor is Elaine Kalman Naves, daughter of Gusztáv and Anikó Weinberger. She is 'Iluska' mentioned above - she was 2 years old in 1949. Gusztáv returned from the front to learn that 34 members of his extended family, including his wife and small daughter Évike, had been deported to Auschwitz. Only one cousin returned. He remarried Anikó Schwartz and they had two daughters, Elaine and Judith.This collection of correspondence was used as part of the research for the following book: Kalman Naves, Elaine.
