CLUB WOMAN - TO BE OR NOT TO BE2.Pearl Mekler.Besides raising funds a good organization provides its members with programming to stimulate their interest and intellect. However, if the members don't avail themselves of the opportunity, they as well as the organization have lost out. Our lecture series serves as example. It is easy for some women to be happy in self interests only, but I feel we have a responsibility to our community and to the Jewish people as a whole. One should accept this responsibility and be identified proudly with her organization. Once you belong, your group is like a member of your family and you have relatives that will welcome you when you travel or move. There are times when you need it more than others, when we are young mothers it is a stimulating, congenial evening away from diapers and dishes. When the children are married and away from home and time is heavy, we look forward to meeting friends with whom we have shared experiences and interests. I feel at our present age the personal need is not quite as great. We are just in between youth and old age and enjoying a little of each, yet looking for interesting things, new things to entertain and challenge us. I for one believe that we must take advantage of all the opportunities, and have diversified interests, we have the time, the energy and the need. But these new interests should be added to the lasting and important interest in your organization. There are times you need the group less than others but the group is always there wanting and needing you. My conclusion - CLUBWOMAN - TO BE.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
