- MOTION ADOPTED AT CANADIAN SESSION - NATIONAL CONVENTIONDetroit, Mich. - August 13, 1963The motion was read on behalf of Fritzie Malus (unable to attend the convention):I hereby move that the delegates who are present at this session and who represent their councils or clubs in non-council cities be instructed to report to their respective executives as soon as possible after this convention on the proceedings of this session in reference to the formal separation of Pioneer Women of Canada from Pioneer Women of the United States.Be it further moved that during the course of the next year, between the convention taking place now and the first Executive meeting of the new Canadian administration, which is scheduled to take place in October, 1964, the subject of "separation" be thoroughly reviewed and discussed in every community in Canada. The Canadian Executive will then be authorized to reach a final decision based on majority rule** when it meets in session. If the decision will be in favor of separation from Pioneer Women of the United States, let is be understood that immediately following the Canadian Executive meeting our National Officers will be charged with the responsibility of negotiating with the National Board so that proper procedures will be followed and final arrangements made by the next National Biennial Convention. This motion is being made with good-will towards the National Board of Pioneer Women of U.S. and Canada and in full recognition and appreciation of the help and guidance which it has extended to Pioneer Women of Canada. The motion was accepted after the following text was added to** based on majority rule by referendum. Final decision will be made provided two-thirds of paid-up membership responds to referendum. It was also agreed that the Canadian Office would have to prepare a document outlining the pros and cons regarding separation.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
