Perched on a hillock between Haifa and Nazareth, it commands an impressive view of the valley of Jezreel. The richness of its soil prompted the sages to declare "Young man, go north to Galilee."Neglected for centuries, its desolate land was reclaimed in 1951, the area was revived and populated and in 1959 it became highly industrialized. Today it is a forward looking town of 10,000 inhabitants. Its flourishing industries, which include a diamond polishing plant, cotton mills, the Glovis Glove and the internationally famous leather and suede Beged Or factories, a brewery and a Helena Rubinstein plant, create employment. Nevertheless there are grave social and economic problems.Who are the people of Migdal Ha'Emek? The majority are newcomers of Afro-Asian origin with a culturally depressed background. Their social and cultural backgrounds must be raised in order to integrate them fully into Israeli society. The large families — 10-12 children are not unusual — necessitate the employment of both parents outside the home. The children must be taken care of.1. nursery care2. supervised after school periodsRead automatically; may contain mistakes.
