- GENERAL FEDERATION OF LABOUR IN ERETZ-ISRAELGENERAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN WORKERSמועצת הפועלתTel-Aviv, Israel, the ........June 7th, 1967 ......Dear Chaverot,GENERAL FEDERATION OF LABOUR IN EREZ-ISRAELמועצת הפועלותההסתדרות הכללית של העובדים בארץ־ישראלIN REPLY PLEASE QUOTEHistadrut Building, 93, Arlosoroff St.446111—35We have been at war for several days. Our armies have fought and won difficultbattles on all our borders. Our sons and daughters have proven their heroism to the world:The Israel Defence Force is not an ordinary Army; its soldiers are imbued with ideals andfaith in the justice of our cause, and this is the reason for their almost superhuman courage. In following the events of our war, one cannot get over the brilliant strategy, blessed with initiative, efficient use of equipment, our deep concern for those who falland their families, and our humanitarian treatment of prisoners of war.Our Army has set an example to the nations, in expressing Israel's desire forpeace with the Arab nations and with all the countries of the world. But our Army knowsthat it has the responsibility of safeguarding our lives. Our soldiers carry Israel's flagwith honour and are prepared to pay with their lives for our existence as a nation. In these fateful days, with emotions of love and pride in our Army, the entirenation is mobilized in civilian defense tasks and everybody is on the job. It is withproud hearts that we note our disciplined population, obeying instructions, and nowcoming to the Government's aid by purchasing Defense Bonds, while husbands, fathersand sons are at the front. Our women, who have always served the nation, have volunteered and are workingday and night in all defense services. We have more volunteers than we need and manychaverot complain when they are not kept busy with defense services.Although the war effort is first and foremost, we are nevertheless continuouslyconcerned with our activities and adapting them to current conditions:We have had to transfer a number of institutions; We have had to absorb children from evacuated areas; We prepared shelters, ditches and defense wallsWe supplied fire extinguishing equipmentRead automatically; may contain mistakes.
