- Scope & content
- Form printed on paper made from waxed cotton, filled in Canadian Army Discharge Certificate for Abraham Brenner. Details on paper indicate that Abe Brenner joined the Canadian Army in September 1942 and is returning to civilian life on 18 December 1945 after serving in Canada, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe. It details the medals he was rewarded for service, and instructions to carry this notice anytime he wears his uniform after being discharged (for a maximum of 30 days). Narrative: Abraham (Abe) Brenner was born in April 1912. He served in the Royal Canadian Signal Corps as a Signalman from 1942-1945 when he was discharged for the completion of his tour. During his tour, Abe and some of the Jewish soldiers attended a Yom Kippur service in one of the few Jewish communities remaining after the Holocaust. He wrote about how heart-wrenching it was to see. He was 33 when he was relieved of duty. For his service he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Defense Medal, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
