Scope & content
Postcard with black printed text, has handwritted black ink on front, and grey pencil handwritting on back. There are three black stamps on the postcard, two are circular and postmarked with BAUSCHOWITZadEGF, and the third is rectangular and reads THERESIENSTADT. Alice Rosenburg sent the postcard to her mother Selma Kaufman (nee Stein) in Theresienstadt in 1943. The card was returned unsigned by Selma. Selma had probably been already deported to another location by the time the card reached Theresienstadt. Narrative: Donor's father Markus Rosenberg was born in 1890-03-12 in Waechtersbach (Germany) and was a Director of a Paint Manufacturing Division. He was married to Alice Johanna Kaufman who was born in Beuel (Germany), and was a housewife. They had a daughter named Sara (later called herself Margrit). They lived in Cologne (Germany). During the war, the family hid in Rogne (Norway) startin April 1940 and in Valdres (Norway) before finding refuge in Malmo (Sweden) in October 1943. They moved back to Oslo, Norway in 1945. Markus died on 1947-11-11. Alice and her daugther lived in Oslo until 1951, when they immigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Alice died on 1981-11-02 in Montreal (Canada). Simon and Selma Kaufman (Selma was born Stein) were Alice’s parents. They lived in Beuel (Germany). During the war, they were interned in Theresienstadt and were later deported and killed in Auschwitz.
