CONGREGATION SHAAR HASHOMAYIMKENSINGTON AVE.CORR. ST. ANTOINE ROADWESTMOUNT, P.Q.OFFICE OF the Executive Secretary.June 23rd, 1938.Cantor Nathan Mendelson,349 Chadwick Ave.,Newark, N.J.Dear Cantor Mendelson:Yours sincerely,Executive Secretary.CORP. ST. ANTOINE ROADI am acknowledging both of the letters that you sent to Mr. J. Levinson and myself, and learn that you expect to come to Westmount for a few days in the next week or so in order to arrange the necessary accommodations for your family. If you would be good enough to let me know, when you are in a better position to do so, the definite date you intend to come here, we will arrange to see that you are passed through the Immigration without any difficulty. In connection with the transportation of your household effects, I have spoken to the local firm of J.B.Baillargeon Express Ltd., 423 Ontario St. East, Montreal, who operate a daily van service between here and New York. I have inquired from them as to what it would cost to transport the contents of a five-roomed house of furniture, and they have given an approximate price of $100 to $140.00. A definite quotation can only be given upon learning the total of cubic measurements of the load involved. In this connection it would be well if you got in touch with their New York office, the United Van Lines, in the Flatiron Building. We are also informed that you will require a Customs Permit for the entry of these goods, and you can get all the information regarding this by communicating with the J.B. Baillargeon Company here.I do not think, personally, the total expense involved will be anywhere near the figure you mention, as I have in mind one of the members of our Hebrew School staff transporting his effects from New York last Fall, and I believe the total expense then was only about $140.00. In any case, the Congregation will defray the cost of same. With cordial regards.Read automatically; may contain mistakes.
